We were making videos and uploading them to Youtube before it was cool. After a couple of viral videos and features on MTV and Comedy Central, we figured we might have a knack for this whole internet thing.
Methodloft has had the pleasure to work with clients that are open to some ‘outside the box’ ideas. When it comes to television commercials, we always ask- Why can’t every commercial be a Super Bowl worthy commercial? The same thing applies to the internet- If you’re going to make a video, why not make it as sharable as possible? An alternative, or viral, idea doesn’t have to be a good looking man telling you how awesome Old Spice deodorant is, it can be something that engages or moves you emotionally. Sometimes a humorous idea fits, in which case we’ve produced several viral videos, perform standup comedy, and have a track record we try hard to remain humble about.
Sharable content is synonymous with the term “Link-Bait”. Video Link Bait is content that encourages other websites to link to you. There’s a complicated explanation as to why Link Bait is vital to your web presence, but the short version is- Google doesn’t care who you are if nobody else does. If you create a piece of content that other people share, Google will recognize you as someone who has something to offer. Video is one of the most common, and important, forms of Link Bait.
Basically, video production companies are a dime a dozen. With today’s technology, anyone with a camera is a self-proclaimed cinematographer, but our unique offering is discernment… the ability to distinguish good content from er, not-so-good, content. Execs might scratch their heads wondering why their SUV commercial featuring a LOLcat completely bombed, but we scratch our heads wondering how the idea was green-lit in the first place. A viral video is a video that people share… a lot. So how’s this apply to businesses? Imagine a commercial that spreads on it’s own, not because you paid a cable network a bundle of money to interrupt television programming. Sounds too good to be true right? Creating a viral success might as difficult as catching lightning in a bottle, but we’ve done it several times.

A lot of the countries biggest ad agencies have adopted the methods of viral marketing, but mind you, at big-ad-agency-costs. At it’s core, viral marketing works incredibly well at the smaller level, due to fewer chefs in the kitchen and less diluted ideas. We think MTV died a long time ago, but thankfully music videos found a nice home on the internet. The internet, an awesome place where anybody has the chance to become Justin Bieber (or insert one of the many long list of stars discovered on youtube). Too often garbage videos accompany good music, so let us help.
